Hello and Welcome

One of the biggest factors of a successful therapeutic relationship is the connection between the therapist and the client. I believe that it's useful for people to know the person "behind the therapist" in order for them to see if they'd be someone they think they can work with. I like transparency and think it can help this process out. As Brene Brown would say, "what's your story?".

I am from Southern Ontario and was raised an hour or so north of Toronto. My parents divorced when I was a pre-teen and fortunately for me, that meant I gained two amazing step parents and step siblings. I grew up loving nature and animals, and was also encouraged to explore my spirituality.

My road to becoming a psychotherapist started as a child. Always an observant, sensitive child, I saw how conflict and disconnection often came from the hurt and unhealed wounds inside of us - how we all generally just wanted to be seen, heard, appreciated, and loved, but fear, hurt, and misunderstanding kept us lonely, sad, and stuck. In an effort to help myself and others, I pursued education that could help me understand the science behind being human and of the confusing, messy, fascinating world of emotions. Becoming a mental health professional seemed like a good fit. Adding the lens of spirituality was the bonus and most authentic step I have done thus far.

Other things to know about me: Self-professed nerd. I love lego, sci-fi, reading the classics, and trying to find creative and useful ways to bring humor from pop-culture into metaphors and illustrative points. Once I reached 40, I found myself in love with plants, pickleball, crocheting, gaming, and kayaking. I can either be found walking my two completely misbehaved dogs, out on the water, reading, or watching Drag Race re-runs.
